A Word from Our Director

David Hagy, Music Director/Conductor

Friends!

The Salisbury Symphony is growing! We continue to perform
the Pops at the Post concert in the early summer (even in light
rain!), thanks to wonderful sponsors who love this exciting
community experience, and we are adding a Nutcracker,
separate from our subscription series, after last season’s huge
success with the Piedmont Dance Theater! You will want to
see this production each Christmas season as both the
wonderful music by Tchaikovsky and the delightful
choreography and production designed by Rebecca and
Dan Wiley will put you in the Christmas spirit.

It is truly miraculous that our community continues to support such a vibrant series of concerts each season! Our subscription series will feature both favorites and some pieces new to everyone. The North Carolina Symphony begins the season (while I’m in Venice for Wake Forest). Guest guitarist Scott Tennant will perform the favorite Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo. (You’ll recognize it when you hear it.) In January we’ll hear three composers’ views of humankind, with some musicians in the balcony! Our principal cellist Anne Sellitti joins us in presenting this contemplative yet triumphant concert.

The Family concert features two young soloists that you’ll have to hear to believe, violinist Dustin Wilkes-Kim and pianist Richard He. Our elementary students will learn about alliteration with the clever Peter Piper’s Practical Principles of Plain and Perfect Pronunciation! Pianist Louis Goldstein will join us in March with a Mozart Piano Concerto and the fancifully woven tale of the Arabian Nights, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, will captivate you.

Finally we celebrate Derby Day with a work about horses and Suite for Jazz Piano Trio and Orchestra featuring pianist Federico Pivetta, bassist Matt Kendrick and drummer Jakubu Griffin. Will there be mint juleps there? You’ll have to come see!

In my opinion Salisbury continues to be the best small town in America! Come hear what I think is one of the reasons why!
