In 2004, the publisher of the Salisbury Post was anticipating celebrating the newspaper's Centennial in 2005. What could be better than to give to the Rowan community a free, outdoor pops concert? And, as it turned out, there was no better acoustical site than the newspaper's own loading dock! Thus, "Pops at the Post" was born.
The celebratory event was so successful that it is becoming an annual event, eagerly anticipated by many in the area. Downtown Salisbury, Inc. has partnered with the Post and expanded the day’s activities with their own “Prelude to the Pops,” downtown events, dining and shopping adventures that begin earlier in the day and lead up to the sunset concert.
Presenting sponsors Jim and Gerry Hurley and F&M Bank head a growing list of area businesses and organizations that support the popular event, and with the Mayor’s blessing, will guarantee its future for many years to come.
"The combination of our excellent symphony, our beautiful downtown, seeing families together with children learning how much fun a symphony can be and the surprise on people’s faces as the Blackhawk flyover happened was just wonderful,” said Mayor Susan Kluttz. “To me, it symbolizes everything that’s good about Salisbury and everything I’m so proud of.”
